Maleficent, Disney's #1 Villain
My latest custom commission was a blast to dream up. My friend Andee, in Denver, who has commissioned me to make many pieces, asked me to put together this mosaic mirror for her sister who is a HUGE fan of Disney and fairy tale villains.
But her favorite is Maleficent, that evil, black hearted sorceress from Sleeping Beauty. Here she is with her "pet".

These black metal flowers are fitting for this evil piece.

Left-of-the-Dial
I finished up some funky mosaics today including this cute/strange little watering can.

Strange because some oddball things made their way into it. Like this cow.
And Jesus.
And a cat.
And a buffalo. No particular artistic meaning to any of it except I liked the way it came together.
Next up, a mosaic mirror complete with nude woman salt and pepper shakers. I see these in antique malls sometimes and I think they're fun.

Cool glass bulb that really came to life when I sprayed the piece with clear gloss.
Once again, no particular artistic meaning, just left-of-the-dial like me.

Monterey
As the snow falls here in KC, it's nice to dream of a place like Monterey, California. I have a friend with a home there and he tells me about doing yoga on the beach at Big Sur. I don't know about the yoga part, but I'd settle for a lawn chair and a beer.
I'll be putting this mirror in the mail to him soon as a surprise. Love the chunky, funky sea shells.
More funky mirrors coming soon.

This and That
This warmer weather has given me some renewed energy. I was down in the studio (basement dungeon) last night working on Magpie Mansion, the next birdhouse in the series. I also got the child's mirror and some switch plates shipped up to Sharon in Iowa for her to lug to Sister's along with her own treasures.
I got the elephant a few weeks ago while I was junkin' during the few fabulous days I had off. And of course, I do love to make switch plates.

I got this little shelf on my junkin trip to Welda, Kansas last weekend. Home made and lots of personality. The brown was cool, but I thought it needed to be lightened up . . .
So I spray painted it silver and then sandpapered a good deal of the paint right off. I looked like the tin man when I was finished but it looks pretty cool.

Dawn and I really enjoyed our trip about an hour south and stopped in Garnett, Kansas on the way back. Although the little downtown square was empty and most everything was closed, we found a Chinese restaurant and a couple of antique stores.
