Boo!!!

I've been swamped with my new booth at the Mission Road Antique Mall. Please check my other blog, Eccentricities, for pics of all that's going on there. I did manage to knock out a few Halloween mosaics today, including this frame.

I love the doll head. Creepy.

And these round brass tags are cool.

Funky bottle.
And another using some great letters I found on Etsy awhile ago.

These small magnets are fun to do.

I make the ghosts and pumpkins from polymer clay.

I'm also getting ready to send a few things to Frank in Los Gatos, California.

I did this birdhouse a long time ago and just needed to reattach the bird at the top. This was one in a series of four I did that were "bird buildings". This is "Blackbird Bachelor Loft, Chicks Welcome".

I included some race cars and Boulevard Beer bottle tops.

And I want to give a special shout out to my friend Becky in Wisconsin. I met Becky on Etsy a couple of years ago and she has family in Kansas City. Every time her brother drives back to KC, Becky loads him down with boxes of treasures for me from a local thrift store where she works, including these great beads that I used today.

And countless really cool cups, dishes, figurines, and sparklies. Thanks for thinking of me, Becky!!!

And I took a few pics in Brookside today while dropping off my mosaics. The Reading Reptile has the greatest window displays!

And we're big fans of Brookside Toy and Science where they have tons of unusual stuff.

Create

I had so much fun yesterday making frames with my friends Cynthia and Hannah.

Hannah's frame was specially made for a picture of she and her favorite teacher.

Cynthia's frame was customized, but I'm sworn to secrecy!

Jane Hosey-Stern, Amaze Boutique Diva even joined in on the fun. I wouldn't have guessed that grout and pancakes went together so well, but Jane has a certain je ne sais quoi.

And her finished piece was amazing, just like her.

More fun classes are scheduled in September at Amaze:

Thursday, September 9th, 6:00 - 7:30
Saturday, September 11th, 2:30 - 4:00
Thursday, September 16th, 6:00 - 7:30
Saturday, September 18th, 10:30 - noon

Please email me at kellylaaron@sbcglobal.net or leave a comment if you'd like to learn more. Thanks for your support!

Canary Cottage

Welcome to Canary Cottage. Like the Magpie family, the Canaries enjoy weird garden art and all things eclectic. This little birdie home shipped out to Los Gatos this morning. It will be in a fantastic shop called "Frank" with an attentive and adoring owner, Kristy Kent. Cheers, Kristy!

Got this great figurine in a jar full of shells from Old School Flea in Welda, Kansas.

The song food tin is from Sentimental Journies in Olathe. Boy oh boy is that a wonderful antique mall. If only I were there now . . .

I've had the machine oil bottle for awhile and thought the orange oil was a perfect compliment to the Canary family abode.

I just love making birdie houses. What will be next?

A Few Mosaics

I picked up these aspirin tins at a garage sale earlier this summer and they make great focal points for my switch plates.

I especially like this banged up Bayer tin.

A friend recently gave me a big bag of junk jewelry and knew I'd be all over this crusty Victorian clip. Once again, great for a switch plate.

And is it too early for a tiny Halloween plaque? As an avid Halloween-o-phile, I think not!

World Traveler

My husband, comic book writer Jason Aaron, recently did a blog post about my mosaic work here. Jason is co-creator on his critically acclaimed book, "Scalped". Jason writes it and the unbelievably talented RM Guera draws it. Below is Guera's gritty style come to life.

In his post about me, Jason featured a "Dad" picture frame I had sent to Los Gatos for sale in Kristy Kent's store "Frank". The frame sold right away, but Guera inquired, so I made him the frame below. I am thrilled to be sending it all the way to his home in Spain and even more thrilled to know that such an accomplished artist was interested in one of my pieces.

And I have a friend headed to visit Williamston, Michigan this week. I was talking with her recently about wanting to expand my store presence throughout the U.S. and she offered to take a few of my pieces with her to show to shop owners. How cool is that?! Below is a little heart I've packed up for shipment up north.

I love the tiny utensils.

And this switch plate has a heavy metal finial topper. Very fun!

I didn't want to load her down with too much, but the last of three pieces is this cute lil' frame that features a funky cologne bottle. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

And I need to build my inventory all over the place. I think I'll send this cock a doodle doo plaque to Iowa.

This small magnetized plaque is for a blogland friend!!!!

And this frame is for a charity auction. Amy Hopper from Amaze donated the snazzy brooch.

My busy weekend included a mosaic class with my great friend Laura. I'll post a pic of her finished piece once she gets it grouted.

Amazing Blogland

Blogland is amazing. The part of Blogland where I live inspires me and surrounds me with others who have like interests. It is a place where we praise each others' accomplishments and lift each other up. It is a place where we are curious about each others' families and goings on and how we wound up doing the things we love. It is a place where people meet who would never in a million years cross paths otherwise. How amazing is that?

Last night, Patsy from HeART Works, who just happens to live in the Philippines, was kind enough to trip across my blog and post about it on hers. I awoke to a bunch of really cool and flattering comments from talented artists also from the Philippines and others as far away as the U.K. SO FUN!!!!!!!!! Above is a wonderful project that Patsy is currently working on, so head on over to her blog to check out the finished piece, coming soon. Thanks again, Patsy, for the shout out and for bringing me together with artists from far and wide.

Another great thing I awoke to today was my friend "Chippy" hanging out in his favorite place on my back patio. Maybe he likes the view?

Mosaic Tid Bits

Just a little of this and a little of that.

That tiny bottle contains saccharin pills, lumped together, but still in-tact.

I got the lighter at the artist's estate sale last week.
