As the snow falls here in KC, it's nice to dream of a place like Monterey, California. I have a friend with a home there and he tells me about doing yoga on the beach at Big Sur. I don't know about the yoga part, but I'd settle for a lawn chair and a beer.
I'll be putting this mirror in the mail to him soon as a surprise. Love the chunky, funky sea shells.
More funky mirrors coming soon.

More Mosaic Heart Love
Mosaic hearts abound and I just hope I can get them to Stuff tomorrow through the crazy snow we got today in Kansas City. Might take a special girl to enjoy this one but her man will know it when he sees it.
Same here.
I love these plastic crystal things I got on Etsy.
This is a large heart, about 13" long and 7" across.
Antique hardware.
Large, red bottle I had for a long time. It's fun to finally do that one piece where it fits just right.
Big chunk of costume jewelry.
Another small heart.
Still more to glue and then grout and I'll ship them to Frank in California and Sister's Garden and Bloom in Iowa. Don't wait, order your custom heart now in time for Valentine's Day or they're fun to give any old time.

Hot Off the Valentine Press
I have many more Valentine hearts to churn out, but here are the first few. I strewn a chain with gold balls across this one. As I was grouting, I thought I'd made a big mess but I really like the way it turned out.
You never know. You can incorporate just about anything into a mosaic but not everything I've tried is a winner. This one is about 7" across at the widest point.
And these are cute little hearts, about 4" across.
Dig the ballerina. (Speaking of ballerina, if you haven't seen Black Swan, check it out).
Here's an example of the underside. I usually grout this side, but I wanted more surface area. I don't think I'll go back to the small side again. I'm having lots of fun with the Valentine hearts and I should be in the basement right now knocking out more but I'm a morning girl and will tackle more tomorrow. If you'd like a custom Valentine heart, email me at kellylaaron "at" sbcglobal.net. I'm not easily offended some come on, think of something special to say to your loved one and let me drum up a heart just for you. Thanks for your support.

Welcome to 2011
The last couple of years have been slow on the mosaics front. We moved in 2009 and that was an all consuming process as we looked at over 50 houses. That didn't take the entire year, but once we got in, the last thing I wanted to do was hunker down in the basement. 2010 saw the start of my antiques business. Check out my Eccentricities blog for more information about that adventure. For the first time in a long time, I'm ready to do some mosaics. Here are the first of 2011.
Shhhhhh . . . this is elle's birthday present. A plaque that features a good sized antler and a Josh Ritter song title, "Angels on Her Shoulders". This is a fun locket and love the washed out turquoise chunk of plate.
And I did eight smaller plaques with some inspirational words. Love the antique drawer pull with the lion's face below.
A word to live by in 2011.
Nina had given me the cowboy and gun along with some small badges awhile ago and I finally used them in this plaque. Yee haw.
"Inspire"
"Dance"
"Beautiful"
"Replenish"
"Peace"
And a couple of small magnets. Next on the to do list are some larger heart plaques for Valentines Day. In the meantime, these small plaques will go to Stuff here in Kansas City. Happy New Year!
